Brazil VIII - Carambei, a Dutch village in the south

In the beginning of the 20th century, Dutch immigrants came to Brazil and ended up forming a big community here. This village is quite different from the rest of the cities/villages down south.

Brazil VI - How to resist delicious food?

A Dutch strawberry-chocolate pie?

A gourmet 'brigadeiro' with cherry and almond?

A sushi buffet?

A typical Brazilian pastry called 'cueca virada'?

Special bread from Marcolino bakery?

A scrumptious palmito and cheese pie?

A mouthwatering peanut-caramel cake?

it's IMPOSSIBLE to resist!

Apart from these delicious meals, sweet temptations seem to be everywhere in this country:

This is sweet tooth country!

Brazil VI - Curitiba rocks!

Amazing tiles,

Shadows on graffiti,

Hot date invitations in phone booths,

A mysterious (closed) Mosque,

Striking art on an old building,

Preparing to dive (?),

Paraná's famous pine tree (Araucaria),

Photographers are welcome here,

A cat with a tag in a vinyl store,

The shoe shinner's spot,

The pink-ish museum ever,

Central Market's food stalls,

Timeless grafitty,

The Oscar Neymayer museum,

And our silly photos inside...

Brazil V - Out and about in Curitiba

One theory about the name "Curitiba" comes from the Tupi words kurí tyba, "many pine seeds" due to the large number of pinecones of Paraná pines in the region prior to its foundation.

As most of Southern Brazil's population, Curitiba is mostly inhabited by Brazilians of European descent. The first Europeans to arrive in the region were of Portuguese origin, during the 17th century. The architecture shows a bit of European influence, specially in the central part of the city.

As well as other influences.

Many many parks exist within this amazing city and even in the central area the streets are decorated with flowers and huge trees.

Graffitty and unexpected details coexist amongst modern buildings, reminders of recent development.

So much to see. Two days and a half left to explore some more!
